Whetu was born and in Tauranga Moana with whakapapa connextions to Te Puna, Matakana Island and Okauia where he was raised. Okauia, which is located at the foot of the Kaimai Ranges, is where Whetu’s passion for the taiao started. Mahinga Kai and pest control was part of his daily life.

Whetu’s vision for Ngamanawa Incorporation and Ngā Mata Hiringa is to see more whānau working on their whenua restoring the ngāhere and their wāhi tapu.

Whetu studied environmental management before starting work with Ngā Mata Hiringa, his passions include his whānau, whenua, hunting, fishing and diving.
